Looking Back, Looking Forward: Changes in 2015

2015 Badge 30North Cascade Eye Associates’ story is constantly growing and changing. This year, we celebrate our 30th year as a practice, and this has never been more true!

Thirty years of serving the eye care needs of Skagit Valley and beyond has been our privilege and our joy. We’re celebrating all year long – culminating in a party we’ll be throwing in the fall to mark our official 30th birthday. (There will be more announcements on this later in the year.)

As you may have read in Our History, 1985 was the year Dr. Nannette Crowell began seeing patients for eye exams in Sedro Woolley alongside her dentist husband, Dr. Rodney Brandt. In those first days they shared office space – and staff – and titled their newsletters “CB&S” (for “Crowell, Brandt, and Staff”) in lieu of a practice name. Dr. Crowell’s ophthalmology practice was officially named “North Cascade Eye Associates” a few years later, when Dr. Brandt moved into the office next door and Dr. Crowell acquired her first associate eye doctor.

Now, thirty years after we began, we’re opening a new chapter in our practice’s book and changing our name.

Why the name change?

One of the big changes we made last year was in our Optical department. We have been slowly moving toward a more independent-spirited approach to how we do our business and where we put our focus: an approach that emphasizes our local ties and our loyalty to the community we serve.

When we decided to launch our own personal brand of eyewear, Dr. Crowell suggested the name “Cascadia,” and we realized that was exactly what we were all about. As you may know, Cascadia is the Pacific Northwest region that encompasses the long, green band stretching from British Columbia to Northern California. Cascadia is also the independence movement that celebrates our connections and strong sense of place within this region. It embraces our uniquely Northwestern way of life and our love for our home.

Right now, with thirty years of love for our local community stretching behind us, this vision center has never felt so Cascadian. And knowing that we have already made that name a part of ourselves in the optical department, it feels right to make that change complete. The transition may be slow at first, but we are excited nonetheless!

And of course we are still the same dedicated, caring doctors and staff you’ve known over the years. We still promise to not only invest in the best technologies to serve your vision, but to keep that personal connection we’ve worked hard to build with each patient we see. Throughout any changes that may come, we hope you will join us for another thirty years as we continue to keep your eyes in precision focus, from every angle.
