Ambulatory Surgery Center

Because of the strenuous requirements placed on the surgery center by the credentialing authorities (AAAHC), CMS and the federal government (Medicare), and the state health department, our ASC staff is highly trained and credentialed. All staff is registered with the state as Medical Assistants, Certified Nurse’s Aids, Registered Nurses, or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. Continuing training is given high priority. The ASC has a robust Performance Improvement committee who oversees the training and performance of the entire staff.

Wendy Siapco

Wendy Siapco is our Surgery Center Administrator. She came to Eye Associates Surgery Center a few years ago as a part-time scrub tech, following her experiences assisting her husband and experienced LASIK surgeon, Dr. Dan Siapco, on medical mission trips to the Philippines, Ghana, and others. There she realized how dramatically a person’s quality of life can be improved with better vision, and decided she wanted to become a part of that. Prior to working here she focused on raising her two sons, but now they are old enough for her to focus her energies elsewhere. She really enjoys the atmosphere of the surgery center and being able to help patients in a tangible way, and her duties have expanded over the years to managing the surgery center full-time. Wendy shares the doctors’ passion for medical mission work and has participated in every trip since they began.

Janelle Fritz, BSN

BioJanelle Janelle Fritz became a pre-op and circulating nurse for the ASC in 2014. She loves the fast-paced environment and the great people – both staff and patients – that she gets to interact with each day. Janelle received her nursing degree at Union College in Nebraska, having grown up in the Midwest. She has lived in the Pacific Northwest since leaving college, and currently resides in Burlington with her husband. She also has two college-age children. In her free time Janelle loves gardening, traveling, and curling up with a good book.

Janice Sestrap, CMA, RDA

BioJaniceJanice Sestrap joined the ASC in Spring 2013 as a sterilization tech and circulator and has expanded her training to be a scrub tech as well. Well-versed in medical clinics, she originally graduated with an associates’ degree as a Medical Office Systems Specialist in 1994. She went on to become a Certified Medical Assistant in 2010 and a Registered Dental Assistant in 2012, both of which have helped her successfully assist in the ASC. She enjoys performing her duties there, finding that her days go by quickly in the good company of the excellent ASC staff. She grew up in Burlington, although she currently lives in Ferndale. She has three adult sons and enjoys golfing, traveling, and going to church with her newlywed husband. She also loves the Seahawks, working out, landscaping, and photography.

Erik Kort, MA-R

Erik Kort is the patient services coordinator for the surgery center, joining in February 2012. He has a gift for not only handling the many steps of surgery check-in efficiently and smoothly, but also making it enjoyable! His friendly, engaging manner puts nervous patients at ease, and smiles on the faces of everyone. Erik lives in Mount Vernon, where he moved with his wife Alex Brandt after graduating with degrees in History and Education at Walla Walla University. Erik writes fiction – novels and short stories – and has an ever-growing library at home. He also loves tea, tabletop games, and wilderness tracking and survival.

Robin Casteel, MA-R

BioRobin2 Robin Casteel came to the ASC as our surgery scheduler in early 2015. She handles much more than just scheduling surgeries, and her versatility and competence helps the ASC run smoothly. She appreciates the challenge of her position and finds it very rewarding to be an integral part of a practice and staff that changes lives daily. Robin was born and raised in California, graduating from San Diego State in 1980 with BAs in Psychology and Anthropology. With her husband and four children, she traveled all over the US with the Navy, until her husband retired from his station at Whidbey Island in 1998 and they started a Bible Baptist Church in Stanwood that same year. They’ve been living and ministering in Stanwood and Camano since then. Robin loves her ministry (playing the piano and teaching women’s studies) and her husband, and enjoys spending time with her four adult children and nine grandchildren. She also enjoys walking, writing, and sewing.

Denise Wilkins

BioDenise Denise Wilkins became our surgery billing coordinator in April 2015. She makes sure the billing process goes smoothly for those who have had cataract, cornea or lid surgery, helping patients navigate the sometimes-thorny path of medical insurance. Denise has been in the medical/billing field for 20 years. She has lived in Arlington, WA her entire life. She has a son and a daughter, and especially loves volunteering with the kids’ activities, including a lot of work with the local Girl Scouts.
