Our billing and insurance experts serve as your advocates when working with the often-complicated world of insurance. They undergo training as coding specialists and strive to keep up to date with all the latest insurance changes.
Brittany Weiss, OCS
Brittany Weiss joined the front office in March of 2011, moving to the billing department later that year. She specializes in the ins and outs of Vision Service Plan, handles billing of physicians’ fees for surgery, and also assists patients with any questions they might have. She acquired the Ophthalmic Coding Specialist qualification in 2017, and enjoys unraveling the strange little mysteries claims can produce and solving those problems for patients. She also looks forward every day to working with her Cascadia Eye family. Originally from Michigan, Brittany has lived in Mt. Vernon for three years. She loves animals, especially her incredibly indulged cats, and enjoys reading, gardening, working out, and occasionally eating macarons.
Melissa Todhunter, OSC
Melissa Todhunter first joined us as an office assistant when she was 16 years old. Since then, she has been a part of our front office staff on multiple separate occasions – even when life took her away to other parts of the world, she always came back to us! In 2016 she successfully passed the test to be a certified ophthalmic scribe (OSC), giving her the level of eye knowledge on par with the scribes who work with other eye doctors. These days, Melissa is in charge of insurance verification for patients prior to their appointments, making sure patients and staff have the insurance information they need in advance. In her free time she loves reading, the outdoors, and her little tyke at home.
Jodi Hulst, OCS has been a part of Cascadia Eye since March of 1999, and is the head of our billing department. She has over 25 years of experience with billing in the medical field. She has been an ophthalmic coding specialist since 2007, and keeps this ophthalmology-specific certification updated with regular testing. Since the rules, regulations, and compliance issues of medical billing are ever-changing, she enjoys the challenge of keeping up-to-date and using complex problem-solving skills to help patients navigate insurances to the benefit of everyone. In 2016, she added Internal Operations Manager to her job description, and now oversees not only the billing department, but also Marketing, IT, HR and AP. A native to the Skagit Valley, Jodi lives with her husband of 25 years and her two kids, Alex and Nicole. Her kids are involved in local sports, and she has a great time cheering them on! They also enjoy geocaching, hiking, and traveling together, and on her own time, Jodi also loves to read and do volunteer work.
