In addition to an Administrator who has been on the job since Cascadia Eye was born, we utilize the team approach so our staff is supported whenever there is a need. Our team averages 15 years with Cascadia Eye and consists of those with expertise in computers, human resources, facility management, and insurance, to name a few.

Our Internal Operations teams keep Cascadia Eye running behind the scenes. The highly-trained members of revenue cycle management serve as your advocates when working with the often-complicated world of insurance. They undergo training as coding specialists and strive to keep up to date with all the latest insurance changes. Our IT department makes sure our hi-tech approach to patient care, electronic records, and communication goes as smoothly as possible. We couldn’t do our work without them.

Opticians are professionals with expertise to analyze a glasses prescription and then design eyewear best suited for the patient. Our optician are either journeyman opticians (passes a 3 year apprenticeship), certified with the American Board of Opticianry (passed a national certification test) and/or Licensed with the State Department of Health (passed a three part test in optics, contact lenses, and practical skills after 3 years of schooling or apprenticeship. They may have all three of these designations.

Our technicians are first trained in-house by our own Dr. VanNurden while they simultaneously work toward certification through the Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology. Dr. VanNurden has a Master’s degree in Clinical Optometry which she utilized to train other optometrists-and now our technicians are greatly benefiting from this training opportunity. Along with the in-house training, our technicians are involved in hours of continuing education, training, seminars and testing through JCAPHO. Once they have completed their required training and time on the job, they may test for their Certifications, COA and COT. Additionally, all technicians are required to attend weekly training sessions given, on a rotating basis, by each of our doctors.

The front office staff consists of those who check patients in and out, phone staff, medical records and insurance/billing liaison. In today’s medical environment, this group has to be adaptable and constantly learning due to frequent changes and new requirements. We have a group of highly trained and experienced staff, with many of them having over 10 years with Cascadia Eye.

Because of the strenuous requirement placed on the surgery center by the credentialing authorities (AAAHC), CMS and the federal government (Medicare), and the state health department, our ASC staff is highly trained and credentialed. All staff is registered with the state as Medical Assistants, Certified Nurse’s Aids, Registered Nurses, or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. Continuing training is given high priority. The ASC has a robust Performance Improvement committee who oversee the training and performance of the entire staff.

May 3 2018 was my first visit and I was very impressed with how all the staff and Dr. Santoro treated me. And they had all my insurance paperwork done when I got to my appointment.
