In addition to our Administrator, who has been on the job since Cascadia Eye was born, we utilize the team approach so our staff is supported whenever there is a need. Our team averages 15 years with Cascadia Eye and consists of those with expertise in computers, human resources, facility management, and insurance, to name a few.
Sheri Saldivar, CMPE, LDO
Together with Dr. Nannette Crowell, Sheri Saldivar began North Cascade Eye Associates in 1985, with Dr. Crowell concentrating on developing the clinical processes and Sheri concentrating on the business. An entrepreneur at heart, Sheri saw the new clinic as a limitless opportunity for creativity and growth. First there was a computer system to implement—as a result we were one of the first clinics in the valley to be fully electronic. In order to better control the quality of the glasses our prescriptions generated, our first optical store was opened in 1985–and then a finish lab. With our specialty we needed technically trained staff so an Apprenticeship for opticians and other successful training processes were put into place.
Under Sheri’s vision, other doctors and support staff were recruited, resulting in opening locations in our neighboring communities, and further sharing our state-of-the-art eye care processes. Next came the development and opening of our eye surgery center, offering truly personalized care for our surgical patients. Now our little duo of Dr. Crowell and Sheri has grown to become ‘Cascadia Eye’ — with eight providers, four locations, an ASC and over 60 employees. But Sheri hasn’t lost her vision of limitless opportunities, or her need to be an expert in change management! Her current focus is using our size and growth to improve our supply chain and developing our lens manufacturing expertise, so we can offer the absolute best prices while maintaining the quality and service that our neighbors expect and deserve.
Jodi Hulst, OCS has been a part of Cascadia Eye since March of 1999, and is Cascadia Eye’s internal operations manager. She has over 25 years of experience with billing in the medical field. She has been an ophthalmic coding specialist since 2007, and keeps this ophthalmology-specific certification updated with regular testing. Since the rules, regulations, and compliance issues of medical billing are ever-changing, she enjoys the challenge of keeping up-to-date and using complex problem-solving skills to help patients navigate insurances to the benefit of everyone. In 2016, she added Internal Operations Manager to her job description, and now oversees not only the billing department, but also Marketing, IT, HR and AP. A native to the Skagit Valley, Jodi lives with her husband of 25 years and her two kids, Alex and Nicole. Her kids are involved in local sports, and she has a great time cheering them on! They also enjoy geocaching, hiking, and traveling together, and on her own time, Jodi also loves to read and do volunteer work.
Jan Taylor has been here for over 20 years–she started way back in August of 1991 as a receptionist and appointment secretary. She had come from a bookkeeping position and wanted to try a change of pace–but soon discovered her first love would always be numbers. She became Cascadia Eye’s bookkeeper full-time in 1995, and hasn’t left since. Jan handles staff payroll, bank deposits and reconciliation, and more–she loves every moment of it, and can’t imagine what it will be like to retire someday. She considers the people at Cascadia Eye to be her family and thinks of herself as the office “Mom,” an apt description since she certainly takes good care of everyone.
Jan loves her real family too: her husband, four adult children, and thirteen grandchildren ranging from ages four to eighteen. Every Saturday morning Jan hosts a big family breakfast, and every spring they have a huge Easter egg hunt with over 300 eggs hidden. Jan reads voraciously in her spare time–even her license plate proclaims “Booknut.” She loves traveling every year with her daughter Jodi and embarrassing the grandchildren. And, as everyone in the office has discovered, she is a huge Seahawks and Mariners fan!
Vicki Jevons attended Skagit Valley College and then worked for several years at another physician practice. Now our satellite manager and co-management liaison, she began her employ with Cascadia Eye in March of 1996 as a receptionist. Eventually–after a time as the front desk supervisor–Vicki moved into our billing department, which she led for many years. Vicki’s knowledge in many departments around the office, as well as her willingness to take on responsibility, earned her the position of Assistant Administrator. Then with the addition of our fourth location in 2015, Vicki became the manager of our satellite clinics in Stanwood and Anacortes. A long-time resident of Anacortes herself, Vicki’s spends her free time with family and enjoying her young grandchildren.
Brianna Bevis joined our team in 2016 as our CEO’s administrative assistant, handling multiple projects at once on behalf of Sheri and the Board. She is also chair of our Safety Committee. As the administration’s right hand, she embraces the opportunity to learn new and varied things every day — taking on new skills from opticianry to tech. Originally from Oahu, she now lives only a mile away from her job, and loves it. She is married with three children and a Labrador, and some day wants to retire in Belize where her husband’s family owns an equestrian jungle resort. She loves the outdoors. Additional fun facts: Brianna has five siblings, once attended the Art Institute for Culinary Arts, and loves hula, including dancing in festivals and competitions.
Alexandra Brandt has been a part of Cascadia Eye since she was just a few weeks old–as Dr. Crowell’s newborn daughter, she became the very first Office Baby to grace the clinic in its early years. Patients loved watching her grow up, and the clinic was like a second home to her. After graduating from college with a degree in English, she came back as a part-time office assistant in 2008, which grew into a patient services coordinator position. She began to help with marketing projects–art and writing–on the side, as a part-time Marketing Assistant. Now, as a full-time part of the practice’s Marketing Team, she writes copy and does design work, and serves as Cascadia Eye’s web representative on social media and our blog. On her own time, she writes and sells short stories and does freelance book cover design. She volunteers her advertising talents for the Skagit Valley Chorale, where she also sings. She loves reading, playing tabletop games, and making curries with her husband Erik Kort.
Jessica Knox started in Cascadia Eye’s front office in 2011, and became a favorite with patients and coworkers alike for her willing spirit and seeming ability to help anyone with anything. She even won the “Employee of the Year Award,” voted for by her peers for being so outstanding! Her ability to learn and adapt to meet any need in the office has led to her new position as the practice’s IT expert and troubleshooter. Born and raised in California, Jessica misses the sunshine – but says the Pacific Northwest, with so many nice people, has definitely grown on her. She got married in Summer 2017 and lives in Mt. Vernon with her husband and a young son, Alex, who keeps her constantly entertained – and very active.
